Zell

St. Joseph's Church

The German Catholic parishioners first arrived in Nouvelle Alsace in 1837, which became Zell in 1840 and the parish was established between 1841 and 1845, being cut off from Ste. Genevieve parish. In 1841, it is listed as serving 1,085 people, so at this time served a very large parish. Archbishop Peter Kenrick visited Zell in summer 1847, but the stone church was not quite finished, so he had to return later for the consecration of the church. P.O. 1881-1922.

*Beautiful stonework.
